ELIGIBILITY

This application is to be used for graduating high school seniors who reside in Monterey County and who will be attending a two-year or four-year accredited college or university OR a graduate student enrolled in a Teacher Credential Program*.  ALL applicants MUST:

Have a grade point average of 3.0 or above.

  • Be enrolled full-time and maintain 12 or more units in the Fall semester.
  • Be involved in community service projects or activities.
  • Disclose financial need.

*Priority will be given to NAACP  youth whose parents or legal guardians are members of the NAACP.

Scholarship applications open on December 1, 2024 and close April 15, 2025 at 11:59 P.M.  
 
NO INCOMPLETE or LATE applications will be accepted.

  • Provide an official transcript of your high school or college work.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation. Recommendations may be from a current or former teacher/counselor, your pastor, or a community leader.
  • Provide proof of acceptance to an accredited college or university.

LATE AND/OR INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

Please select one of the following two questions to compose a 500-word essay.

  1. What would you want to be different in your own country or community to further principles of equality, equity, or social justice? Fully discuss.
  2. If you could live your life fighting for one cause, what would it be and why? Fully discuss.
  3. Describe a time when you were challenged by a perspective that differed from your own.  How did you respond?
  4. Reflect on a time when you or someone you observed had to make a choice about whether to act with integrity and honesty.  Fully discuss.
Write a 200-word biography including your philosophy on the importance of education and what led you to select your major.
Provide any financial circumstances that exist in your family which will explain your financial need. Include ANY financial sources you may obtain to assist you in completing your college goals.
In a brief statement, add any additional information that you would like the committee to know in considering your scholarship application (i.e., disabilities, special needs, foster care, etc.)
