Rebel Scouts

CMC community, we are VERY excited to announce a new project specifically for KID activists in Monterey County. The CMC “Rebel Scouts”! The Rebel Scouts are loosely structured after organizations like the Girl Scouts (no affiliation) but for promoting social justice principles. We do have an application process so if you are interested in your child becoming a Rebel Scout please fill out the form below. We are only accepting up to 7 kids at this time. APPLICATIONS DUE BY 5 PM MARCH 17

About the Rebel Scouts:
The Rebel Scouts are a group of 5th to 7th grade Monterey County kids dedicated to promoting the principles of social justice, activism, and the guiding beliefs of Collectivize Monterey County. Rebel Scouts use education and praxis to engage in their communities. Rebel Scouts represent the future of resistance, hope, and the collective power of people. CMC Rebel Scouts is an inclusive group open to all.
***The Rebel Scouts are made up of no more than seven kids. The goal is to have a group that is diverse and reflective of the community they live in.***

…and more

We want to empower families and provide the tools needed to have necessary conversations around social justice, privilege, allyship, and direct action. Therefore, we have an application and interview process to ensure that families are committed to the mission of Rebel Scouts. Our goal is to build a community of parents and kids working towards implementing social justice beliefs in their homes and community.

Rebel Scouts will attend local events such as rallies, protests, pride marches, and other events applicable to the social justice unit we are currently working on (which is how they earn badges!).There will be many opportunities for Rebel Scouts to earn badges, and we will all earn badges together. No one will be left behind. Each Rebel Scout will be sent home with a light packet for parents/guardians to look over at the start of the unit to explain some of the concepts we will discuss and events planned.

Rebel Scouts will meet at least twice a month to discuss the unit they are working on; they may be asked to participate in community events as well. We will try our best to give parents/guardians at least two weeks notice before any community event where Rebel Scouts may be asked to attend.

The Rebel Scout uniform is required at all Rebel Scout gatherings and events. We want people to know we’re there! The uniform consists of:
– Black beret (required)
– Red vest (required)
– CMC Rebel Scouts patch (required; photo of patch in comments)
– Patches as earned

The total cost of the uniform is $30 and is a one-time purchase. We want Rebel Scouts to be accessible to all, so if the cost of the uniform is out of your budget, we have a scholarship option. Earned patches are at no cost.
